STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world... and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
However, the masses lived in city slums, and country shacks. They worked 14 hours days in mines and factories, and were paid
just enough to cover basic needs. Tenant farmers did no better. Child labor, horridness working conditions, polluted air
and streams were the norm. There were no national product safety laws, work place laws, pension laws.
The issue isn’t our taxes, but what we get back. We work over 5 months a year to pay those taxes, but we sure as hell
don’t get 2 months worth of benefits we can use—and I don’t consider a benefit our military expenditures,
which are greater than that of all the other nations of this planet combined.
The neoliberals have double our national debt, thus making interest payments the second biggest discretionary item—after
the military—in our budget. They have caused oil to go from $35 dollar per barrel to $135 (8/08) per barrel. They
have allowed our corporations to avoid taxes by moving off shore, and have reduced the tax rate for the oil companies. And
our dollar has fallen over 40% against the Euro and Yen since we elected them. At least under Clinton our dollar was strong—not
much else good to say about the Democrats.
